Community Care Physician Network Joins NC State Health Plan Network

CCPN is the largest independent physician network in North Carolina with 2,500 independent primary care physicians currently serving more than 2.5 million patients in urban and rural areas of North Carolina

June 17, 2019 (Raleigh, N.C.) – State Treasurer Dale R. Folwell, CPA, and the State Health Plan (Plan) announced today that Community Care Physician Network (CCPN) has signed a contract to join the North Carolina State Health Plan Network.

CCPN's 2,500 primary care clinicians, including pediatricians, family medicine physicians, obstetricians/gynecologists, psychiatrists, psychologists, nurse practitioners and physician assistants, currently care for more than 2.5 million North Carolinians, including 700,000 Medicaid beneficiaries.  With 880-plus practices located across the state of North Carolina, its clinicians ensure access to high quality care from the mountains to the coast.

“We are delighted to partner with and welcome CCPN to our new North Carolina State Health Plan Network," Folwell said. “Their physicians are leaders in our state in developing the highly regarded medical home model. They're known nationwide for high quality care, patient satisfaction and by using their innovative, collaborative approach to drive down costs."

The North Carolina State Health Plan Network is the result of the Clear Pricing Project (CPP) announced last year. Under CPP, the Plan will move away from a commercial-based payment model to a reference-based, transparent pricing model tied to Medicare rates. Health care providers will be reimbursed for their services at Medicare rates plus an average of 82 percent. Plan members will save more than $50 million.

“It made good sense to us," said Conrad L. Flick, M.D., CCPN Co-President. “We're dedicated to our communities and our patients and focused on providing them with better and more cost-effective health care. CCPN and its physicians look forward to continuing our relationship with the hardworking state employees who serve North Carolina. We have a common vision that efficient and quality healthcare start with primary care and we are excited to help them find the right places to begin and maintain overall better health."

The State Health Plan, a division of the N.C. Department of State Treasurer, provides health care coverage to more than 727,000 teachers, current and former lawmakers, state university and community college personnel, active and retired state employees, and their dependents.
