Dr. Picton has served as the Medical Director for the Caldwell County Health Department since 1998. He provides clinical care to patients in prenatal, family planning, primary care, well child checks, and through the Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) program, and the Breast, and Cervical Cancer Prevention CDC program (BCCP). He is also the TB physician for Caldwell County.
As Medical Director he provides comprehensive leadership and oversight in public health initiatives and clinical operations. Dr. Picton has over three decades of expertise in obstetrics, gynecology, and public health leadership. His main areas of interest include improving community health outcomes, fostering collaboration among healthcare teams, and championing innovative maternal health initiatives.
He received his undergraduate degree from UNC Chapel Hill, his medical degree from ECU School of Medicine, and completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, in Wilmington, NC. He was on the board of AccessCare, one of the regional networks when CCNC was first formed, and an OB Champion with the CCNC Pregnancy Medical Home program.
