L. Allen Dobson Jr., MD, FAAFP, is the immediate past chair of the Board of Managers of Community Care Physicians Network, LLC. (CCPN), a clinically integrated network of more than 3,600 clinicians in more than 1,000 practices sites across North Carolina. CCPN is dedicated to providing support to independent primary care practices that will allow them to thrive in emerging payments systems such as value-based care.
Dr. Dobson is a founder and past President and Chief Executive Officer of Community Care of North Carolina (CCNC). CCNC provides population management and primary care medical home services to 1.6 million North Carolinians. Nationally recognized for quality outcomes, patient and physician satisfaction and lowered costs, CCNC holds the Hearst Prize for Innovation in Population Health and Harvard’s Annie E Casey award for Innovations in Government.
Dr. Dobson is active in the development of health policy. He is a frequent advisor to the National Governors Association and is regularly tapped as a speaker by states from across the country interested in learning about North Carolina’s CCNC model. He has served as a visiting scholar at the Brookings Institute’s Center for Health Reform, and presented provider reform ideas at meetings at the White House, National Institutes of Medicine and Congress. His expertise and insights about the importance of primary care in effectively managing healthcare quality while reducing costs are widely sought.
Dr. Dobson is a graduate of North Carolina State University and Wake Forest University’s Bowman Gray School of Medicine. He completed his residency in family medicine at East Carolina University. He is a native of North Carolina.
He is also editor-in-chief for Medical Economics® and an Adjunct Clinical Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
